ioMemory + ioTurbine = Easy Acceleration for All Virtualized Applications
Posted: 08/16/2011
“With [ioTurbine] software we saw a 4X performance improvement without any tuning [of the software].” -- Gary Lamb, CTO at NextCloud and co-author of the book "Deploying the VMware Infrastructure."
For years, Fusion-io has been accelerating the performance of data-intensive enterprise applications. Now that we have acquired virtual caching software creator IO Turbine, ioMemory’s acceleration benefits are extended to virtualized environments. We're excited to welcome the IO Turbine team to Fusion-io and offer their innovative software as Fusion ioTurbine.
This acquisition benefits customers who virtualize applications in several ways:
-
Higher Application Performance. Virtualization makes the I/O patterns of applications more complicated and unpredictable. This makes it difficult for even the most sophisticated virtualization software to manage shared resources, often requiring organizations to overprovision (and overinvest) to handle peak loads. Fusion ioTurbine software transparently adds terabytes of ioMemory as cache to existing compute infrastructure. Beta customers are regularly seeing 3-4x performance improvements without any tuning.
This workload capacity enables virtualized environments to run more VMs per server and to extend virtualization benefits to even data-intensive applications without concern for resource contention.
-
Easy Deployment. Fusion ioTurbine software drops in transparently to existing enterprise VMware environments and works seamlessly with vMotion environments. Thus, organizations can quickly and easily improve performance while extending the life of virtualization infrastructure investment. Additionally, a simple command activates or deactivates the software, making deployment extremely low risk. The image below illustrates how easy it is to add Fusion Powered ioTurbine servers to existing virtual systems, while retaining vMotion capabilities.
-
Dependable performance for VMs. Fusion ioTurbine software offers fine-grained, cache capacity control on a per VM basis, similar to VMware resource shares. This allows organizations to combine performance levels for mission-critical applications.
- Cost Savings. Maximize the efficiency of your existing infrastructure so you can host more VMs and virtualize more data-intensive applications with less servers, memory, storage, software licenses, floor space, administration overhead, and power, and cooling. 5) Easy Management. Manage ioMemory cache with an interface that’s similar to VMware vCenter.
