IBM sells a branded version of the Fusion ioDrive and ioDrive Duo called the IBM High IOPS SSD PCIe Adapter. IBM supports the High IOPS Adapter in many servers, including the BladeCenter HS22 and HX5 blades (with a PCIe riser).

Following are some of the most common deployments, and recommendations for the supported servers.

x3550 M3

The x3550 M3 is a fast 2-socket 1U system that is optimized for rack density. This server covers the same processing power needs as the larger x3650 M3 in a smaller footprint. This server is great for SMB and smaller enterprise applications. It has two low-profile PCIe slots and is a good option if you do not expect your active dataset size to exceed 1.2TB.

x3650 M3
The x3650 M3 is a fast 2-socket system that supports high-end needs of the SMB market and mid-range needs of the Enterprise. This system is optimized for balanced workloads such as smaller SQL Server and virtualization deployments. Each server supports two “Duo” High IOPS Adapters and two low-profile High IOPS Adapters for a total of almost 4TB of ioMemory per server.

x3690 X5
The x3690 X5 server extends the high-end Xeon CPUs into the 2-socket space. This Enterprise class offering utilizes Xeon E7 CPUs with more cores, higher capacity memory configurations and memory expandability via MAX5 memory expansion drawer. The added CPU cores and memory capacity make the x3690 X5 ideal for memory and CPU-intensive virtualization (hypervisor) environments. The ability to deploy up to two Duo adapters, plus 3 low-profile adapters (for well over 4TB of ioMemory per server), makes the x3690 X5 a very flexible growth platform.

x3850/x3950 X5
This 4-socket system is targeted at the highest workloads, such as OLTP and data warehouse database environments. Highly scalable memory configurations as well as the ability to implement 2 chassis in an 8-socket configuration give added flexibility to handle very large workloads. This server supports up to 7 low-profile or 7 Duo adapters per x3850 X5 chassis.
